We are proud to announce that we’ve hit a major milestone by offering our students brand new scholarships that will set them up to go far in their lives.

Our students will now be entitled to a brand new scholarship that will provide far greater opportunities for continuing education and succeeding in today’s job market.

In honor of our late President Kenneth David Kaunda and his immense contribution to the establishment of the University of Zambia as the leading higher education institution in the country, the University has partnered with Astria Learning to establish the “University of Zambia-Astria Learning Kenneth Kaunda Scholarship”.

This prestigious scholarship targets young African scholars, offering various sponsorship plans while placing focus on the development of modern leadership skills.

The Beginnings

To understand how far we’ve come, we need to take a brief look back at 20th century Zambia.

Upon gaining its independence in 1964, the country was faced with a serious shortage of qualified human resources in all sectors of the economy.

On his first day as a President of Zambia, President Kaunda led the nation in raising funds for the establishment and construction of the University of Zambia.

Thanks to his selfless commitment and the citizens’ donations, The University was established in 1965 and became operational on 17th March 1966 with 312 students and three schools, with Dr. Kenneth Kaunda installed as the first Chancellor on 12th July 1966.

Since then, the University of Zambia has been the leading higher education institution in Zambia and the region, providing the needed qualified human resource base for all sectors of the economy.

Paying Honors

And now, it’s our turn to give back to our people.

To pay homage to all of the great deeds of President Kenneth David Kaunda and his ever-lasting impact on our institution and on higher education in Zambia, the University has partnered with Astria Learning to establish the “University of Zambia-Astria Learning Kenneth Kaunda Scholarship”.

The young African scholars will have the opportunity to enjoy various sponsorship plans while developing their modern leadership skills.

As one of the leading educational technology providers, Astria Learning develops products and services to improve the quality and delivery of higher education around the world.

In Zambia alone, Astria Learning has partnered with many institutions of higher learning in offering digital solutions for education management and online teaching.

Only the future will tell how far we’ll come.

For now, we can proudly say that once the COVID-19 restrictions are eased, the University of Zambia and Astria Learning will officially launch the UNZA-Astria Kenneth Kaunda Fellowship.

The University, therefore, calls upon all its alumni and Zambian enterprises to emulate this gesture.
